Congress, BRS Fire Up Political Atmosphere in Nalgonda, Khammam Districts
Rival protests erupt over alleged police action and remarks against Telangana Speaker
Nalgonda: Political atmosphere has heated up on Tuesday in the erstwhile Nalgonda and Khammam districts with protests and counter-protests by the opposition BRS and the ruling Congress activists.
In Nalgonda, women members of the Bharath Rashtra Samithi (BRS) presented a memorandum to the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at Marriguda by-pass road junction, listing that the Congress government is diluting the democratic spirit by muzzling the voices of leaders of the opposition parties as well as social activists protesting against government’s failure in fulfilling the needs of people.
In this regard, they reminded people at the venue that Congress government has used police force to suppress leaders of opposition parties proceeding to the State Legislative Assembly to register their protest over the failure of Congress government to fulfil its poll promises after coming to power in Telangana.
Nalgonda district BRS president Ramavath Ravindra Kumar Naik said following the directions of the Congress government, police attacked the BRS MLAs K. Taraka Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao, and G Jagadish Reddy. Police did not spare women MLAs of the BRS, Naik alleged.
On the other hand, Congress workers staged a rasta roko at Thurkapally in Yadadri-Bhongir district in which government whips Beerla Ilaiah and Vemula Veeresham, and Bhongir MLA K. Anil Kumar. The three had been returning after staging protests near the farmhouse of the BRS president and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Erravelli in Medak district.
The MLAs demanded that BRS chief Chandrasekhar Rao and Kalvakuntla Jagadish Reddy and T. Harish Rao tender apology to the Speaker of State Legislative Assembly as the party MLC had used abusive words against the speaker.
The protest by the ruling party led to a traffic jam on the Keesara-Yadagirigutta road.
Further, Congress workers led by the Miryalaguda MLA Bathula Laxma Reddy took out a rally from the party office to the Ambedkar statue in Miryalaguda town. They raised slogans against BRS MLC tata madhu for using objectionable language against the Legislative Assembly speaker, who belongs to the Dalit community.
In Khammam district, Congress members staged a sit-in on the Khammam-Hyderabad highway protesting against the BRS MLC using vulgar language against the assembly speaker and behaviour of the BRS MLAs in the Legislative Assembly.
In Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, the Congress members performed the final rites to a portrait of Tata Madhu at Kothagudem for his remarks against the speaker.
