Hyderabad:The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) is planning to establish a 100 metric tonnes per day chicken waste recycling plant to tackle indiscriminate dumping of poultry waste, which has been causing foul odour, sanitation problems and environmental pollution across the corporation limits.

The facility, expected to be established within a year, will scientifically process waste generated by chicken shops, poultry markets and related establishments. The waste, including chicken heads, feet, intestines, feathers and leftover meat, will be collected in specially designed, fully enclosed vehicles and transported to the processing facility.

According to officials, chicken shops and poultry markets across CMC limits generate more than 50 metric tonnes of waste daily, with the quantity increasing to nearly 100 metric tonnes on Sundays. The proposed facility is being planned with a capacity of 100 metric tonnes per day, keeping future requirements in mind.

The plant will also convert poultry waste into useful by-products, including protein-rich poultry meal and fat oils that can be used in fish feed production. To prevent foul odour during processing, the facility will be equipped with sensors, misting systems, scrubbers and biofilters. An effluent treatment plant (ETP) will also be installed to treat wastewater generated during processing in accordance with pollution control board standards.

The project will be implemented under the Design, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DFOT) model, covering the development, operation and eventual transfer of the facility, a statement said.
