CID Probe Against DIG Chauhan for Corruption
Based on instructions from senior police officials, a special CID team has begun investigating Chauhan.
Hyderabad:Jagulamba Range DIG L.S. Chauhan has been ordered to report to the DGP office with immediate effect after the Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) launched a probe into serious allegations of embezzlement, misuse of power and extortion.
The action follows state DGP C.V. Anand’s remarks at a press meet in Warangal on August 10, where he said the performance of four police officials was unsatisfactory despite warnings. Chauhan, despite being cautioned, allegedly continued to misuse his position and indulge in embezzlement.
Based on instructions from senior police officials, a special CID team has begun investigating Chauhan. Action is likely to be taken against him as per rules once the CID submits its report.
A departmental inquiry prior to the CID probe had revealed that Chauhan purchased several acres of land worth crores and faced charges of extorting money, which he allegedly used to construct a posh villa. Reliable sources said he failed to inform the department head about these property purchases, violating service rules that require prior intimation.
There are also allegations that Chauhan collected money by intervening in civil property disputes, promoted head constables as assistant sub‑inspectors, and transferred them to preferred postings in return for bribes.
A complaint directly submitted to the DGP accused Chauhan of using abusive and vulgar language against subordinates who refused to pay him “mamool.”
CID teams are now recording statements of personnel who served under Chauhan and are probing deputy superintendents of police suspected of involvement in collecting mamool.
