Chakali Ailamma— DC File

WARANGAL: The ideals of Chakali Ailamma, a Telangana armed struggle veteran who fought for land, livelihood and freedom from forced labour, continue to inspire the present generation, former Warangal mayor Dr T. Rajeshwara Rao said. He attended the unveiling of Ailamma’s statue at Siddharthanagar in Kazipet, Warangal, on Sunday as the chief guest. The programme was organised under the leadership of senior BJP leader and former corporator Narlagiri Ramalingam.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rajeshwara Rao praised Ailamma for her courageous fight to protect the crops she had cultivated, even at the risk of her life. He said her resistance to the dominance of feudal landlords and the atrocities committed by the Razakars, and her struggle for the rights of oppressed communities, would remain etched in history.

He said the Telangana armed struggle paved the way for the aspiration of distributing land among poor and landless people. He stressed that everyone had a responsibility to acquaint the younger generation with the sacrifices, courage and determination of Telangana’s freedom fighters.

Among those present were statue donor and BRS state leader Narlagiri Ramesh, former corporator and Congress leader Gunti Kumaraswamy, Gabbeta Seenu, Ajju, Yakub Naik, CPM leader G. Ashok and Rajaka community leaders Sammaiah, Satish, Ramaswamy and Lachhu Naik, among others.
