Central Gurudwara Sahib at Gowliguda Marks 100 Years With Centenary Marathon
Hyderabad’s Sikh community celebrates a century of faith, service, fellowship and shared heritage.
Hyderabad: Marking 100 years of Central Gurudwara Sahib in Gowliguda, a run was organised at the HMDA Grounds at Hussainsagar on Sunday, bringing together more than 5,000 participants from across Telangana.
Organised under the theme “Run for Faith, Run for Sewa” by the Prabhandak Committee of Central Gurudwara Sahib in Gowliguda, the event brought together people across age groups and communities.
The event featured 3K and 5K runs and a family walkathon, with children, youngsters, families and senior citizens participating enthusiastically. The morning began with a warm-up and Zumba session before the participants were flagged off by prominent Sikh personalities.
The 3K runners proceeded towards People’s Plaza, while the 5K route extended towards Jal Vihar before participants returned to the HMDA Grounds. Organisers said the run was conceived not only as a sporting event but also as a community celebration marking the centenary of the gurudwara. The event carried the broader centenary message of “One Family, One Panth, One Sangat, One Community and One Historic Celebration.”
Founded in 1926, Central Gurudwara Sahib in Gowliguda witnessed Hyderabad’s transformation over the past century. It has developed into an important centre of spiritual, cultural and community activity for the Sikh community, while continuing to uphold the values of faith, equality, brotherhood and sewa.
The marathon marks the beginning of a series of religious, cultural, and community programmes planned throughout the centenary year, with major events in September including Akhand Path Sahib, the continuous recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib; Kirtan Darbar, featuring devotional music; and Amrit Sanchar, the Sikh initiation ceremony.
