Central Crime Teams Checked 1,917 Suspects During Ganesh Festival

HYDERABAD: Special teams of central crime teams (CCS), deployed for prevention of crime and offences during Ganesh Festival, have checked 1,917 suspects from September 14 to 25.
Special CCS teams, on the instructions of city police commissioner, were deployed to prevent property offences at Khairatabad Bada Ganesh, Balapur Ganesh, Tankbund, Necklace Rotary, NTR Marg and other important crowded areas in and around Tank Bund and to ensure the safety and security of the general public, M. Srinivas, additional commissioner CCS-DD said on Tuesday.
The special crime teams brought the apprehended suspicious persons for detailed verification, Srinivas said.
Their antecedents and involvement in previous criminal cases were thoroughly verified through facial recognition system as well as through departmental criminal databases, he said.
Among 1,917 suspects verified, 31 were subjected to detailed enquiry and 10 persons were found to have criminal histories.
All 31 persons were found moving suspiciously in and around the Ganesh idol procession areas, he added. Subsequently, they were handed over to concerned local police stations for necessary legal action.
As a part of the operation, 25 special crime teams conducted intensive surveillance, checking, frisking and verification of suspicious persons.
The teams maintained a close watch over the movement and activities of known offenders, habitual offenders, modus operandi of offenders, property offenders, suspects and persons with previous criminal history, Srinivas said.

HYDERABAD: During the Ganesh festival celebrations, the city SHE Teams police, who were deployed extensively at the Khairatabad and Balapur mandaps to ensure the safety and security of women and girls and to prevent incidents of eve-teasing and harassment, arrested 2,935 persons involved in eve-teasing and other objectionable actives.
Out of the arrested persons, 858 were counselled, warned and let off after due verification, while 69 persons were convicted, 24 were fined ₹1050, 40 persons were convicted with social service and fined ₹1050, and five persons were sentenced to both fine and imprisonment, M. Srinivas, additional commissioner of police, crimes said on Tuesday.
The SHE Teams maintained a proactive presence at major Ganesh Mandaps, crowded places and immersion routes, with special focus on the Khairatabad and Balapur Ganesh celebrations, to prevent harassment and ensure the safety of women and girls, Srinivas said.
