Hyderabad: BJP OBC Morcha national president Dr K. Laxman criticised the caste census conducted by the Telangana Congress government, terming it flawed and unscientific. He described the survey as incomplete, disconnected from reality and ineffective in addressing the true needs of the Backward Classes (BCs).

Speaking to the media, Laxman stated, "If CM Revanth Reddy was genuinely committed to social justice, his government should have introduced a law to implement it. This is nothing but hypocrisy when it comes to OBCs." He added that the percentage of BCs had been reduced, accusing Congress of attempting to suppress the OBC community. He also criticised Congress for using terms like "Hindu BCs" and "Muslim BCs," which he termed as unconstitutional.

"The Congress leader has been showcasing this survey as a role model but it has by giving Muslims quota indulged in anti-constitutional measures. The survey was started in the presence of Rahul Gandhi on November 6 but is the model special in reducing the BC numbers," he remarked.

Citing the recent GHMC elections, he stated while 50 seats were reserved for BCs, many Muslims won in them. He alleged that the Revanth Reddy government was giving reservations to Muslims in the name of the BC quota since the court had struck down the four percent reservations to Muslims. This method will bring down the quota BCs could enjoy, he explained.

Laxman said the Centre had given a free hand to the states on the BC census because different castes are considered as BCs in different states and if the states give data the Centre would welcome that. He compared the survey in Telangana to one conducted in Bihar, which he deemed impartial, and questioned why the Siddaramaiah government in Karnataka had not made its survey results public.

Laxman also claimed that the BRS had no moral authority to discuss BC issues, citing the party's promise to increase the Muslim quota to 12 percent as an example of their dishonesty. “BJP has always supported BCs, noting that Prime Minister Modi had implemented the EWS reservation along with SC, ST, and BC quotas," Laxman concluded.
