Carwan Protests Detention of Noida Activists
Mahipal accused police of indecent behaviour towards pregnant women and other women, and claimed a 16-year-old boy was detained in Laksar Jail.
Hyderabad:The Campaign for Release of Workers and Activists of Noida (CARWAN) staged a demonstration at Sundarayya Park, Baghlingampally, on Tuesday, four months after workers and activists connected to the Noida workers’ movement were detained. Participants demanded their release and accused Uttar Pradesh police of filing false cases, provoking violence and misusing the National Security Act (NSA).
CARWAN representative Mahipal linked the arrests to a strike in Noida, where workers had demanded a wage increase from ₹9,000 to ₹20,000. He said activists Rupesh, Aditya, Aakriti, Srishti and Manisha had urged workers to remain peaceful, but police later picked them up. He alleged that police operatives infiltrated WhatsApp groups to incite violence.

He also questioned a charge sheet that described the inauguration of a children’s library on Bhagat Singh’s death anniversary as a “conspiracy”. Aakriti and Satyam, he alleged, were booked under the NSA on fabricated charges and face 12 months’ detention.
