HYDERABAD: Mahabubnagar BJP MP DK Aruna on Friday demanded that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy cancel the Dindi irrigation project, stating that the project was against the interests of Palamuru district.

Speaking at an awareness meeting on pending irrigation projects of the undivided Mahabubnagar district, being organised by Jala Sadhana Samithi JAC leader Veera Brahmachari in Mahabubnagar, Aruna said Revanth Reddy claimed to be a son of Palamuru, but was committing injustice to the district. She asked him to prove his commitment by cancelling the Dindi project and completing all pending irrigation works in Palamuru.

She said Nalgonda district already had water sources such as Nagarjuna Sagar and the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC). She said the government could examine the possibility of drawing water from Gottimukkala to irrigate lands in Nalgonda. Aruna said Palamuru had not received its due share of Krishna river water. She demanded that the government protect the interests of Palamuru farmers.

She criticised the government for not completing even one of the pending projects, including Nettempadu, Bheema, Kalvakurthi, Koilsagar and Palamuru–Rangareddy projects. She said the Palamuru–Rangareddy project was taken up to make the entire district green and prosperous. She alleged that its original design was changed and the water source was shifted from Jurala to Narlapur.

Aruna said she had opposed the change at that time. She said drawing water from Narlapur would increase maintenance costs, but the then chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao did not listen to her concerns.

She recalled that she and other leaders had collected signatures of MLAs against the Dindi project. She said diverting water through Dindi would cause injustice to Palamuru farmers.

She also said they had opposed the proposal to take Jurala water up to Pakala. She said the Palamuru–Rangareddy project, if completed as originally planned, could supply water to all constituencies of the united district. Aruna alleged that KCR had neglected the Laxmidevipally reservoir. She said the Revanth Reddy government was also ignoring it.

She claimed that no irrigation project in Palamuru district was completed during KCR’s ten-year rule and during the present government’s three-year rule.

Former MLAs Guvvala Balaraju, Nagarkurnool district BJP president Narendar Rao, Vikarabad district BJP president Ramesh and other senior leaders attended the meeting.
