BRS Seeks SC-Monitored Probe Into ECI Functioning
Speaking to media persons, Rama Rao said the ECI, a constitutional body, must remain above suspicion, but it is no longer the case with serious questions raised on its impartiality.
Hyderabad:BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday said the Election Commission of India (ECI) was facing a severe crisis of confidence and urged the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognisance of the concerns surrounding the functioning of the poll panel.
Speaking to media persons, Rama Rao said the ECI, a constitutional body, must remain above suspicion, but it is no longer the case with serious questions raised on its impartiality.
He said: “ECI is a constitutional body. We cannot believe any other agency to investigate the ECI other than the Supreme Court of India. The Supreme Court needs to take cognisance of what former election commissioners are saying about how ECI is being run, and launch a suo motu inquiry into the matter. Hopefully, some answers will come out and the truth will prevail.”
Rama Rao also said that he had led a BRS delegation to met the three Election Commissioners in New Delhi and took to the ECI’s notice the serious apprehensions that the party had on the special intensive revision (SIR) process. “We submitted our concerns formally during the Bihar elections as well, pressing the poll body to address rumors, clarify ambiguities, and bring complete transparency to the revision process,” he said.
