BRS Demands Withdrawal of Cases Against Farmers Over Jurala Water

Hyderabad: The BRS on Thursday slammed the government for filing cases against farmers who were protesting for release of water from the Jurala project to save their standing crops.
In a statement, party senior leader T. Harish Rao said farmers, vexed with the silence of the irrigation officials, had opened the sluice gates at the project to let water into the canal.
Forcing irrigation engineers to file criminal cases against farmers was further proof of the recklessness of the Congress government, he alleged.
Crops were withering as the government failed to provide for irrigation; when farmers took action, they were victimised.
“The BRS demands immediate withdrawal of cases against 11 farmers who are now facing police cases and that the government ensure irrigation to save standing crops under the project,” Harish Rao said.
