Hyderabad:City-based WiSig Networks which is incubated at IIT Hyderabad, has opened commercial orders for its made-in-India 32TR Massive MIMO radio, a 5G device developed to improve uplink performance and network coverage. The company announced the development at India Mobile Congress 2026 in New Delhi on Thursday, with bulk shipments planned for 2027.

The radio supports Class A and Class B of uplink performance improvement (ULPI), under the O-RAN Alliance’s 7.2x standard. Class A processes received signals within the radio unit, while Class B does so in the network’s distributed unit. WiSig said the technology addresses limitations of earlier Open RAN radios, particularly in areas with weaker network coverage.

The device has 32 transmit and 32 receive channels and operates on the n78 mid-band frequency. Other frequency variants are under development. It supports up to 16 spatial layers for downlink and eight for uplink, a statement said.

The radio was first unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in March 2026. It is also part of the company’s complete 5G Standalone solution, which has been tested for mobile broadband and fixed wireless access.

Prof. Kiran Kuchi, founder of WiSig Networks and professor at IIT Hyderabad, said, “This radio is the result of years of research in massive MIMO and uplink receiver algorithms at IIT Hyderabad and WiSig.” He said the research received funding from IIITB COMET Foundation, supported by the Union department of science and technology’s NM-ICPS mission.

The radio uses Altera Agilex FPGAs. Christian Lanzani, general manager, Wireless, Altera, said, “Since WiSig unveiled its production MIMO radios with Altera at MWC26, we have seen strong operator interest in programmable, ULPI-ready massive MIMO.”

WiSig is demonstrating the radio and its complete 5G Standalone solution at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, from October 7 to 10.
