Warangal: Tension prevailed in Warangal on Friday following a confrontation between the BRS and Congress leaders over allegations related to the June 21 auction of lands by the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (Kuda).

The dispute began after the BRS leaders, including former Kuda chairman Marri Yadav Reddy, alleged irregularities in the auction process. Incumbent Kuda chairman Engala Venkat Ram Reddy rejected the charges, stating that the auction was conducted in a transparent and lawful manner.

Venkat Ram Reddy said the auction generated over Rs 100 crore in revenue and described the allegations as politically motivated, accusing the BRS leaders of seeking political mileage.

The situation escalated after leaders from both sides announced plans to visit the Bhadrakali temple to assert their positions, prompting heavy police deployment in the area.

Police placed the incumbent chairman under house arrest to prevent him from proceeding to the temple, while Yadav Reddy was detained near the temple and shifted to Mattewada police station.

Yadav Reddy reiterated his allegation that government lands were being sold below market value to favoured parties.

Supporters of both parties gathered at different locations, leading to a tense situation before police intervened and dispersed the groups.
