Breastfeeding Cabins Set Up in Nizamabad Temples

The endowments department has set up breastfeeding cabins at major temples in Nizamabad district to enable mothers to feed their infants in privacy during temple visits.

The initiative has been introduced at Sri Neelakanteshwara temple, Janda Balaji temple and Madhavnagar Sai Baba temple, following steps taken by endowments department assistant commissioner V. Vijaya Rama Rao.

Devotees welcomed the move, saying the facilities have made temple visits more convenient for mothers with infants.

Bhagyalaxmi, mother of a four-month-old baby, said she was happy to have access to the breastfeeding cabin at Sri Neelakanteshwara temple. She said the initiative by the endowments department and the temple committee had provided much-needed relief to women devotees.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Sri Neelakanteshwara temple committee director K. Naga Rao said the temple was taking steps to improve facilities for devotees. He said a large number of devotees visit the temple every day and Annadanam is organised every Monday.

The initiative coincides with World Breastfeeding Week, being observed from August 1 to 7. Supported by the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF and other global partners, the annual campaign seeks to raise awareness about the health, nutritional and economic benefits of breastfeeding for mothers and infants.
