HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Private Transport Mazdoor Maha Sangh (BPTMM), the industrial unit of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), has called for a nationwide protest, Chalo Delhi, to fight for the rights of private transport workers at Jantar Mantar on November 19.
General secretary Ravi Shankar Alluri issued a 10‑point charter of demands, including creation of a Welfare Board for drivers and workers, a ban on white‑number‑plate commercial bikes operating under digital platforms, a 50 per cent discount on insurance premiums, and fixing the annual FASTag toll fee at ₹73,500 for single‑owner vehicles.
Other demands include construction of rest houses, canteens, drinking water facilities and medical centres along highways, revival of licence renewal for auto‑rickshaw drivers, and an end to illegal collections by RTO officials and police.
The union also urged the government to declare February 6 as National Drivers’ Day to mark the death anniversary of Colonel Nizamuddin, driver of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and sought postal ballot voting rights for highway drivers on election duty.
