Hyderabad: BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao on Friday accused the Congress government in Telangana of arbitrarily increasing land market values without scientific assessment or planning, saying the move would impact middle- and lower-income families.

Addressing party workers in Mahbubabad, he said land values had been raised by 50-100 per cent in several areas and by over 300 per cent in some pockets, leading to a sharp rise in registration charges. He said this could force many people to drop plans to buy land or construct houses, and would place an additional burden on farmers and landowners while affecting the real estate sector.

He criticised the fixation of new minimum per-acre and plot values, stating that these were unaffordable for middle-income groups. He also objected to the decision to apply revised rates to buyers who had already booked registration slots under the earlier pricing, terming it “an authoritarian and unfair act”.

Alleging that the government was seeking to augment revenue through higher registration charges, he demanded a review of the revised land values to reduce the burden on the public. He said the BJP would launch protests across the state if the decision was not reconsidered.

Referring to the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called for planting a sapling in the name of one’s mother to promote environmental protection and green cover. He said over 260 crore saplings had been planted across the country since the programme was launched in 2024.

He said BJP MPs, MLAs and senior leaders had been assigned to Assembly constituencies in Telangana to take part in the programme, which is also being organised to mark 12 years of the Modi government.
