HYDERABAD: More than one in every three candidates who appeared for the Telangana Post Graduate Engineering Common Entrance Test (TG PGECET) 2026 opted for Computer Science and Information Technology, underscoring the continued dominance of technology‑related careers among postgraduate aspirants in the state.

The results, announced on Friday, showed that 8,972 candidates appeared for the Computer Science and Information Technology paper, accounting for nearly 38% of all candidates. Of them, 8,367 qualified.

What also stood out was the growing preference for Pharmacy, which nearly matched Computer Science in participation. A total of 7,977 candidates appeared for the Pharmacy stream and 7,753 qualified, making it the second most sought‑after discipline. Together, Computer Science and Pharmacy accounted for nearly 17,000 appearances, far ahead of traditional engineering branches such as Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

Conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) on behalf of the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE), the examination received 26,077 applications. Of these, 23,637 candidates appeared, recording an attendance rate of 90.64%. The test was held between May 29 and June 1 at 31 centres, including 23 in Hyderabad and eight in Warangal.

Several streams recorded high qualification rates. Pharmacy reported pass percentages above 95%, while Aerospace Engineering, Environmental Management, Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering and Nano‑Technology also registered strong performances.

Among the top performers, Nyalam Mythri from Jagtial secured Rank 1 in Pharmacy with 101 marks. Shivarathri Sandeep from Mahabubabad secured the second rank with 100 marks, while Choppa Yoga Chaitanya Srikrishna Rangaswamy from Medchal‑Malkajgiri stood third with 99 marks.

Officials told DC that the results point to a clear trend in postgraduate education choices, with “technology and healthcare‑related disciplines continuing to attract the largest share of aspirants” in the state.
