Bachupally Wall Collapse: Cops Arrest Five Persons for Negligence

Hyderabad: A day after seven persons died following the collapse of a rain-soaked wall in Yellamma Renuka Yellamma colony, Bachupally police arrested five persons on Thursday.

The arrested include Venkanna Arvind Reddy, owner and builder of Rise Developers, site engineer G. Satish, project manager Francis and three contractors Rajesh, M. Simhachalam and M. Ram Reddy.

Police booked them for undertaking an act with the intent to cause death or a physical injury under section 304 part-2 and 337 of IPC, said G. Sandhya, SI at Bachupally police station.

Meanwhile, zonal GHMC officials visited the construction site to verify the construction permission, layout and regularization documents.

The labour commissioner had on Wednesday announced compensation of Rs 80,000 for family members of four deceased, including Rs 50,000 as compensation and Rs 30,000 for final rites. All seven families will get similar compensation.

Labour department officials will shortly submit the report of their inquiry. Legal action will be taken against persons responsible for the deaths, an official from the department said.
