AIMIM Seeks 22A Cover for Waqf Lands

Hyderabad:The AIMIM on Saturday urged the government to bring Waqf lands under Section 22A of the Registration Act, which covers prohibited properties. Asserting that the Raidurgam lands - part of which the government recently auctioned - belonged to Jamia Nizamia's Waqf, the party demanded that the lands be included in the prohibited category and that private lands with genuine claims be cleared from the 22A list.
During a short discussion on "issues related to Section 22A of the Registration Act", AIMIM MLA Ahmed bin Abdullah Balala said it was the government's responsibility to protect Waqf properties, including the Raidurgam lands, which are currently claimed by Jamia Nizamia.
"The land was donated to Jamia Nizamia in 1958 and remained under Waqf. It was the government's responsibility to protect Waqf lands," he said.
Balala also demanded that details of all lands listed under Section 22A be made public to ensure that genuine landholders are not affected by technical errors or loopholes in the Revenue Department.
"All genuine issues should be resolved and disposed of in a time-bound manner. Officials responsible for this should be held accountable," he said.
