 Nalgonda: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday stated that the Congress government considered agriculture not only as a vocation but also as “our culture and lifestyle,” and is taking several measures for welfare of the farmers.

Speaking at the Rythu Ashirvada Sabha held at Raghunadhapuram of Khammam district, he said the government has taken several steps for the welfare of farmers and strengthening of the agriculture sector in Telangana. About Rs 9,000 crore has been credited to the bank accounts of farmers in a span of nine days for the monsoon crop season under the Rythu Bharosa initiative.

“We should not consider this as a freebie, it is an investment for development of farmers,” he said. 

 The minister noted that the government was paying Rs 14,000 crore for DISCOMS per year for supply of free electricity to farmers. It was also ensuring Minimum Support Price (MSP) to farmers for jowar and corn, he said.
