Karimnagar:The adoptive parents of a three-year-old boy have accused Child Welfare Committee (CWC) officials of failing to return him despite a court order.

The couple submitted a representation to the district collector during the Prajavani public grievances programme at the Integrated District Offices Complex (IDOC) in Jagtial on Monday.

A video showing the boy crying for his adoptive parents at the CWC went viral on social media on Monday. During a recent visit, the boy reportedly told them, “Please take me away, mother. I am scared”

The couple adopted the boy from Raikal three years ago, following his mother’s death, through the Hindu adoption system.

Following a complaint by unidentified persons, CWC officials shifted the boy to a child welfare centre three months ago, describing the adoption as illegal.

The couple filed a writ petition in the High Court. On October 16, the court directed CWC officials to hand over the boy to his adoptive parents. The couple said officials had not complied with the order and submitted their representation to the collector on Monday.

Collector B. Satya Prasad said the handover had been delayed due to CWC permission and other administrative procedures. He said the boy would be handed over to the adoptive parents on Monday night or Tuesday morning after completing the process.
