Nalgonda: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested station house officer Barapati Ramesh at the Bhadrachalam Town police station, along with constable Chele Rama Rao, and Dara Karthik, a private individual, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe to release a vehicle. The ACB booked the trio in a case of criminal misconduct, based on a complaint.

According to official sources, on March 19, the police intercepted a gravel-loaded tipper, hired by the complainant, at the Godavari bridge and took it the police station. The ACB said SHO Ramesh and his gunman demanded a bribe of Rs.30,000 for the vehicle’s release, which was later negotiated down to Rs.20,000.

The complainant reportedly transferred the money via a payment app to an account linked to D. Karthik, after which the tipper was released.

The complainant, whose identity was kept concealed, submitted the evidence to the ACB which arrested the three accused after summoning them to the police station. They have since been presented before the Additional Sessions Judge-III for SPE & ACB cases in Warangal.
