Hyderabad: The Telangana government has sanctioned `687.5 crore to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) for the Sunkishala Intake Project, development works and reimbursement under the 20 KL free water supply scheme.

The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department issued three separate government orders on Sunday. Of the total amount, `250 crore has been sanctioned as a loan for the Sunkishala Intake Project under the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project (KDWSP).

Another `362.5 crore has been sanctioned as a loan to HMWS&SB for the development works.

The remaining `75 crore has been released towards reimbursement to HMWS&SB under the 20 KL free water supply scheme.

The funds are part of the budget estimates for 2026-27 and are being released in accordance with budget release orders issued by the finance (DCM) department on September 22.

HMWS&SB managing director has been directed to furnish expenditure details and utilisation certificates to the accountant general and the MA&UD department.

The Sunkishala allocation is intended to support works under the KDWSP, while the development works allocation will be used for various infrastructure-related works taken up by HMWS&SB.

The `75-crore allocation will cover reimbursement under the 20 KL free water supply scheme.
