35 Junior Lecturers Terminated For Fake Certificates
Telangana’s Intermediate Education department terminated 35 government junior lecturers for allegedly submitting fake educational certificates during regularisation.
The Intermediate Education department on Monday terminated the services of 35 government junior lecturers (GJLs) for submitting fake certificates. Initially, these individuals worked as contract junior lecturers and were later regularised in 2023.
Among those terminated, six were from Rajanna Sircilla district, three each from Peddapalli, Siddipet and Suryapet, two each from Nirmal, Sangareddy, Karimnagar, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam and Rangareddy, and one each from Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Vikarabad, Jayashankar Bhupalpalli and Nizamabad districts. The department indicated that action may extend beyond termination, including police and legal proceedings against the lecturers.
The scheme of engaging contract faculty in government junior colleges in regular vacancies was introduced in 2000. Since then, contract faculty were engaged for a maximum period of 10 months, from the college opening day in June to the last working day of the academic year. The previous government regularised jobs of contract faculty, issuing orders in 2023 treating them as regular junior lecturers.
However, following allegations that some lecturers had submitted fake educational certificates, the department re‑examined the certificates of nearly 360 government junior lecturers. Verification was carried out by deputing staff to universities along with the certificates submitted by lecturers who had been regularised.
During the probe, it was found that some junior lecturers had submitted postgraduate or BTech certificates which were not issued by the universities mentioned in the documents. This prompted the department to issue show‑cause notices, seeking explanations from them.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Intermediate Education department director Abhilasha Abhinav said action would be taken against 35 junior lecturers according to rules. She added that verification of other lecturers was still underway.
