Veeramani Case: DMK Moves HC To Order SIT To Question CM

CHENNAI: The DMK has approached the Madras high court seeking a direction to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to summon Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and two ministers and question if they had any material to prove that the previous DMK government has shielded the accused. The move comes at a time when the allegations against the DMK have taken the centre stage of the election campaign in Maduranthagam and Dharapuram by-polls.
The DMK represented by its treasurer T.R. Baalu said they had already submitted a petition to the SIT on Sunday to summon the Chief Minister and ministers Aadhav Arjuna and C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar for investigations since they are making allegations against the previous DMK government on public platforms.
The petition said it is the duty of every individual who possesses information regarding the POCSO case against Veeramani to share it with the SIT. Instead of sharing the information, the Chief Minister and ministers are making allegations on public platforms.
He also said failure to share available information with the SIT would amount to a criminal offence of concealment.
Baalu said it is the duty of the SIT to summon the individuals concerned and collect all the material evidence. He also raised the issue of the source of the information forming the basis of the statements made by the Chief Minister and the ministers.
