Chennai: The Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) which came to power mostly through a social media campaign, took a leaf out of the Dravidian party’s campaign methods and organised public meetings throughout Tamil Nadu to take the 100-day achievements of the party to the people.
The party’s ministers and top leaders in each district spoke in the public meetings held on Saturday evening and most of them said their leader C. Joseph Vijay would be the Prime Minister since he is popular throughout the country, raising the hackles of Congress, a coalition partner of TVK government.
Revenue minister K.A. Sengottaiyan who addressed a public meeting at Tiruppur said Joseph Vijay had the power to rule India in future and people from north India too would support the TVK. Minorities Welfare minister A.M. Shah Jahan said “when you watch social media like Instagram and other social media, you can see he is widely supported by followers throughout India. Vijay has influence and support beyond Tamil Nadu and we will decide our strategy three months before the Lok Sabha elections”.
Social Welfare minister Jagadeeswari who addressed a meeting at Sivakasi said Vijay would be the future Prime Minister since he is providing a corruption-free government in the State. Fisheries minister Srinath said the whole country is speaking about his party leader and he would soon capture Delhi.
Playing down the remarks of TVK ministers that Joseph Vijay is a Prime Minister candidate with nation-wide support, TNCC leader B. Manick Tagore said the ministers had made the comments with a mindset of fans. He said the ministers know that the TVK is in power due to the Congress support. Asserting that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is the Prime Minister candidate, he said if Rahul Gandhi did not take efforts to form a TVK government, the BJP with the support of the DMK could have made AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami as the Chief Minister.
Congress MP S. Jothimani said no one other than Rahul Gandhi could defeat the BJP and all the INDIA block leaders would accept Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister nominee. She said Congress would not accept Joseph Vijay as the Prime Minister candidate, adding the TVK leader should be given time to decide the strategy at the national level. The Congress MP also asserted that the TVK-Congress alliance would sweep Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the Lok Sabha elections.
