TN Increases Rs.6.85 Cr Annually for VIP, VVIP Protocol Arrangements

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned a dedicated annual budget of ₹6.85 crore to meet protocol-related expenses during visits by VVIPs, VIPs and other senior dignitaries to districts across the state, with individual districts getting between ₹15 lakh and ₹25 lakh a year depending on the frequency of such visits.
The Revenue and Disaster Management Department issued a GO revising the existing system for meeting expenses towards boarding, lodging and transportation of visiting dignitaries.
The new arrangement replaces the earlier framework which imposed an overall ceiling of ₹50,000 per visit for such expenses.
The government said the earlier spending limits had become inadequate as the frequency, scale and complexity of visits by high-profile dignitaries had increased. Such visits include those by the President of India, Supreme Court and High Court judges, Union and State government officials, constitutional authorities and international delegations.
