Rice Mill Owner’s Son Abducted in Broad Daylight, Rescued Safely

The Kancheepuram police acted swiftly, traced the abductors to a grove near Cheyyar in Tiruvannamalai district and rescued the victim safely. Four adults, including the alleged mastermind, and two juveniles were apprehended in connection with the incident.

The victim, identified as Surendran ,26, is the son of Ravi ,55, who runs two modern rice mills named VRS in Sirukaveripakkam area of Kancheepuram. Surendran was assisting his father in managing the business.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when Surendran, accompanied by a rice mill employee, was travelling on a two-wheeler to Vinayagapuram to buy lunch for his father. While they were returning to the rice mill, a car allegedly followed them and suddenly intercepted their vehicle.

A group of men reportedly got out of the car, threatened Surendran with a knife and forcibly dragged him into the vehicle before speeding away. The employee who witnessed the incident immediately informed Ravi, who alerted the Baluchettichatram police.

The police quickly informed Kancheepuram Superintendent of Police and alerted checkposts across the district. Surveillance was intensified along the district’s border areas and adjoining routes to trace the abductors.

Meanwhile, Ravi received a phone call from an unidentified person claiming that his son had been abducted. The caller demanded Rs 50 lakh for Surendran’s release and threatened to kill him if the money was not paid.

When Ravi said he could not arrange such a large amount immediately and requested that the ransom be reduced, the caller allegedly refused and gave him only 30 minutes to arrange the money and contact them.

A special police team subsequently tracked the mobile phone location of the suspects and found that they were hiding in a grove near Cheyyar. The team rushed to the location and surrounded the gang. The suspects were apprehended and Surendran was rescued safely.

Those arrested were identified as Santhana Krishnan ,34,, Thamizhmani ,23, Rahul , 23 and two juveniles. Police also seized the car allegedly used for the abduction. The suspects were brought to the Baluchettichatram police station under heavy security and questioned.

Police said Santhana Krishnan, a resident of Ekambaranathar Sannathi Street in Kancheepuram, had previously operated a rice mill but reportedly suffered losses in the business. Investigators suspect that he planned the abduction of Surendran, believing that the family’s financial standing would enable the gang to raise a large ransom.

However, police are investigating whether there were other motives or circumstances connected to the crime. Further investigation is underway.
