Thoothukudi: MSME Minister P. Mathan Raja and Fisheries Minister A Sreenath on Saturday said several initiatives were being taken to promote industrial growth in Thoothukudi, while giving due importance to the district’s heritage and the legacy of freedom fighters.
After garlanding the statue of freedom fighter V.O. Chidambaram Pillai at his memorial at Ottapidara, he said that several development initiatives were under way and the district would witness further growth in the coming days.
Announcements made during the ongoing assembly session would be implemented after the session concluded. Government orders would subsequently be issued and the announced schemes would be taken up for implementation.

The State had also been divided into 10 zones to identify and address farmers’ grievances.
Responding to the water shortage affecting the irrigation area under the Korampallam system tank in Thoothukudi district, the ministers said they had discussed the issue with the collectors of Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli regarding the release of water from the Papanasam dam in Tirunelveli district.
The water availability in the dams was being assessed and the prevailing situation monitored. An appropriate decision would be taken to resolve the issue without causing hardship to any section, they added.
