Tamil Nadu Protests Against VB-G RAM G Is For All Indian Farmers: Stalin

CHENNAI: Even while the ruling DMK alliance staged protests throughout Tamil Nadu on Wednesday against the VB-G RAM G Act, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said the protest held in 398 places is the voice of Tamil Nadu for Indian farmers.

In a social media post, Stalin said the protests were held to restore the Mahatma Gandhi National Rugal Employment Guarantee (MGNREG) scheme and to protect the livelihood of poor agricultural labourers.

The BJP rulers who function with hatred towards Mahatma Gandhi should realise that this (the protests) are the voice of Tamil Nadu for all the farmers of India. The BJP regime should ensure the livelihood of farmers, he said.

In Chennai, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, Dravidar Kazhagam president K. Veeramani and Left party leaders took part in the protest.

Thirumavalavan said the BJP government had eradicated Gandhi’s name from the scheme since the Mahatma prevented their plans for form a Hindurashtra. He said the programme was a symbol of social justice and employment security for the rural poor.

Addressing the media during the protest Veeramani said Gandhi’s ideals could not be erased by removing his name through legislation. He could not be removed from the hearts of the people. His thoughts, principles and sacrifices are deeply embedded in Indian society, he said.
