Tamil Nadu: Ministers Hold Review Meeting On PDS
The meeting reviewed PDS implementation, opening of new fair price shops, inspection of fair price shops and seizure of essential commodities
Chennai: A review meeting on the functioning of the public distribution system (PDS) in Tamil Nadu was held at the Anna Institute of Management in Chennai, under the leadership of food and civil supplies minister P. Venkataramanan and cooperation minister R. Gandhiraj.
District supply and consumer protection officers, district deputy registrars handling PDS, senior officials of the civil supplies CID and district computer managers participated in the meeting.
The meeting reviewed several key aspects of PDS implementation, including disposal of applications for new family cards, opening of new fair price shops, inspection of fair price shops and seizure of essential commodities.
Officials also reviewed the implementation of a mobile-based inspection application for PDS. The application was launched on September 22 in line with an Assembly announcement that a mobile inspection app would be developed to enable department officials to inspect fair price shops and godowns.
The review was attended by senior officials.
