AIADMK Urges EC to Probe Alleged Cash-for-votes in Madurantakam, Dharapuram Constituencies

Chennai: The AIADMK has petitioned the EC seeking an urgent probe into alleged cash distribution to voters in Madurantakam and Dharapuram assembly constituencies, which are scheduled to go to bypoll on October 6. In an official complaint addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner and the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, Rajya Sabha MP and AIADMK Advocate's Wing Secretary I S Inbadurai alleged widespread Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations in the Madurantakam and Dharapuram constituencies.
"I am writing to bring to your urgent attention severe and widespread violations of the MCC and election laws in Madurantakam assembly constituency as well as Dharapuram Assembly Constituency", he said.
The complaint highlighted media reports from September 22, alleging that cash was distributed to electors at Rettipalayam in Acharapakkam union on behalf of TVK to induce voters in favor of candidate Maragatham Kumaravel.
"Beyond this specific locality, reliable information indicates that similar unlawful cash distributions and voter inducements are being systematically carried out across the entire Madurantakam and Dharapuram constituencies," he alleged.
Inbadurai urged electoral authorities to conduct field-level inquiries, preserve CCTV and broadcast evidence, register FIRs, and intensify surveillance by flying squads and static surveillance teams across both sensitive constituencies.
