Sunny Monsoon Days Bring More Tourists To Ooty
This year, the SW monsoon lacked its natural features, leading to more shiny days than rains
Ooty: More sunny days in June to August, during the four-month-long southwest monsoon season this year, brought more tourists to Ooty even as the hills now look forward to a productive autumn tourist season that just got under way.
Generally, after the crowded summer season that concludes in May, the hills would witness a drastic drop in tourists arrival from June, when the southwest monsoon turns strong. However, this year, the SW monsoon lacked its natural features, leading to more shiny days than rains in June and July.
The deficit rainfall has become a major cause of concern for the farmers and water managers in the civic bodies, as both irrigation and drinking water supply were affected. But this turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the hospitality sector as 4.18 lakh tourists visited the Government Botanical Garden(GBG) here. While 1.77 tourists visited the GBG in June, the inflow was 1.04 lakh in July and 1.37 lakh in August.
