Katpadi RPF Rescues Senior Citizen, Treats, Rehabilitates Her

Vellore: Katpadi Railway Protection Force (RPF) rescued a 62-year-old woman, wandering in Katpadi railway station, and provided her treatment.
In a humanitarian initiative under Operation Dignity, the RPF, in coordination with the district social welfare department, government medical college and hospital at Adukkamparai in Vellore, and the emergency care and recovery centre (ECRC), successfully facilitated the rescue, treatment, rehabilitation and recovery of the mentally-distressed senior citizen.
The woman, Shalini Laxman Ambekar, had reportedly been wandering at Katpadi railway station for several days and was initially unwilling to cooperate with the police and other assisting agencies. Through continuous and compassionate efforts, coordinated with emergency and social welfare services, she was rescued and referred for treatment by P. R. Murali, ASI of RPF in Katpadi.
She was admitted to the government medical college and hospital, Adukkamparai, for comprehensive medical assessment and treatment. As no family members were immediately available to provide the necessary care and support, she was subsequently provided continued medical and psychiatric care, counselling, nutritional support, psychosocial assistance and rehabilitation services through ECRC.
At the time of admission, she was malnourished and emotionally distressed. She was initially unwilling to take medication and frequently displayed emotional distress and agitation. Through sustained medical treatment, psychiatric care, counselling, nutritional support and structured rehabilitation activities, her condition improved considerably.
Following the continued care and rehabilitation, the woman showed significant improvement in her physical, emotional and behavioural condition. She is now calm, cooperative and socially interactive, takes food regularly and actively participates in daily and therapeutic activities.
One of the most significant developments during her recovery has been her ability to recall and provide details regarding her residential address and family. This important development is expected to assist the authorities and agencies in their continued efforts to trace her family and facilitate possible reunification.
