Chennai:Coming down virulently on the TVK and its regime over a plethora of issues, including the stopping of some welfare schemes launched by the previous government or just renaming them, DMK president and former Chief Minister M K Stalin said the TVK should have been more appropriately named as ‘Tamil Nadu Reels’ as the party was only running a reels government.

Speaking at the DMK’s Muperum Vizha (three great festivals) celebrations at Anna Arivalayam on Saturday, Stalin said the DMK would not have lost the general elections if it had rightly identified the real enemy and worked accordingly since the party polled only 1.7 million votes less than the TVK that won.

Referring to the two by-elections that were coming up in Maduranthakam and Dharapuram, he said the polls had been forced on the people by the TVK that arrogantly poached winning candidates and nominated them again as candidates of their party.

Usually, by-elections came when an MLA died but this was the first time by-elections were coming because democracy died, he said, adding that the government itself had become dysfunctional as evident from the morning newspapers that recorded 8 murders in a single day in crowded localities.

People were struggling with children in the middle of the night due to power cuts, which had paralyzed businesses, he said. Prices had risen beyond the reach of the poor and women were unable to buy household items because their family income had become inadequate, he said listing out a litany of alleged woes faced by the people.

Accusing the Chief Minister of being too arrogant to believe that he could fix everything with his charm and declaring that he would not meet the media and answer their questions, Stalin appealed to the voters of Madhurantakam and Dharapuram to vote for the DMK as the by-elections were an opportunity to teach a lesson to the ruling party that had created an image of a big wave hitting the State when the reality was that that it had to form the government with the help of parties that won seats as allies of the DMK.

Alleging that the Chief Minister was in a 'shooting mood' every day, Stalin said that though Vijay had stopped acting in films, he was acting in front of people without saying who the director and cameraman were. First it was punch dialogues and now it was shooting in foreign locales, he said.

Tamil Nadu that was once in the news for its ‘Double-digit growth in India,' its excellence in education, for becoming the first address for investors, its trillion-dollar economy dream and such achievements was now in the news for the Chief Minister’s attire, his walking on feet, gesturing with his hands and eating with his mouth, Stalin said.

Unable to answer the questions raised by the leader of the opposition, Udhayanidhi Stalin, the TVK was spreading slander by making irrelevant references to MISA and Sarkaria Commission, he said and added that he had nothing to prove to anyone on his experiences under the MISA regime.
