Protest Against Police Denying Permission for Rekhla Race
According to the people of Mudapulikadu, in Peravurani town panchayat, they made arrangements for the race and 50 bullock carts and 30 horse-drawn carts arrived at Peravurani for the race.
Thanjavur: Tension prevailed at Peravurani following the sudden refusal of permission by the police to conduct rekhla race on Saturday.
According to the people of Mudapulikadu, in Peravurani town panchayat, they made arrangements for the race and 50 bullock carts and 30 horse-drawn carts arrived at Peravurani for the race.
They said they had got permission from the police, revenue and highways departments for the race.
Even as they were eagerly waiting to conduct the race on Saturday, the police said there was no permission for the race and asked them to
stop.
Angry over the refusal of permission, people held a road roko agitation near Anna statue at Peravurani.
Later, police and revenue officials held talks with them and the people agreed to conduct the race on another day after getting permission from the Collector.
