Monkey Attack Injures Eight, Including Child Near Guduvanchery
Forest officials capture animal after it turns aggressive in residential area
Eight people, including a three-year-old child, were injured after a monkey attacked residents in a neighbourhood near Guduvanchery in Chengalpet district on Friday.
The incident occurred on Thulukanathamman Koil Street in Nandivaram municipality, where women had gathered at a public tap to collect drinking water. According to residents, the monkey approached the tap to drink water, but was allegedly chased away by some women.
The animal turned aggressive and began chasing and biting people. It later attacked a woman and her three-year-old child near an anganwadi centre. Others who tried to drive it away were also injured.
Police alerted the forest department, and a team from the Tambaram forest division captured the monkey after prolonged efforts. The animal was later shifted to Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Vandalur.
The injured were admitted to nearby hospitals. The child was referred to Chengalpet Government Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
