Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday offered prayers at Sri Jalakanteshwara Swamy Temple on the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras campus, where priests explained the significance of a sacred sri chakra housed in a sub-shrine dedicated to Lord Krishna and Lord Rama.

Modi, accompanied by Governor Arlekar and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, performed darshan and pooja at the temple. He offered flowers on the sri chakra. Traditional music was played to welcome him while the temple authorities and priests explained the significance of the shrine and its religious traditions.

The temple was constructed during IIT-M’s formative years following a suggestion by Mahaperiyava, continuing the worship of the existing deity.
