Chennai:Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) on Wednesday launched UDYOG (Upskilling and Development for YOung Graduates), an industry-oriented finishing school aimed at equipping biotechnology graduates with practical skills required by the biotechnology and biomanufacturing sectors. Inaugurated by IIT-M Director V. Kamakoti, the programme will combine online courses, intensive laboratory training, pilot-scale exposure and industry internships to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements.

The initiative, launched through SynBioME, the IIT-M-TICEL Biofoundry, targets pre-final and final-year BTech, MTech and MSc students in biotechnology and allied disciplines across India. The first batch will commence on January 18, 2027, with early-bird registration closing on December 15, 2026. “AI also means Academia-Industry. It is becoming an absolute necessity that every discipline of Science and Engineering must look at this AI with care to make themselves relevant to the modern world. UDYOG is yet another effort taken by IIT -M in this direction,” Prof. Kamakoti said. The finishing school seeks to complement academic knowledge with industry-relevant training and exposure to real-world biomanufacturing practices.
