Greater Chennai Corporation To Improve CM’s Libraries Across City
According to the Corporation, 16 Chief Minister's Libraries are currently functioning in different parts of Chennai, while construction of eight more libraries is underway
Chennai: The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) on Tuesday held a review meeting to discuss measures to improve the functioning of the Chief Minister's Libraries (Mudhalvar Padaippagam) operating across the city.
The meeting was chaired by GCC Commissioner Dr. G.S. Sameeran, at the Ripon Buildings.
Senior officials, including Regional Deputy Commissioners H.R. Kaushik (Central) and Swetha Suman (North), participated in the meeting through video conferencing. Zonal officers, officials from the Tamil Nadu Industrial Consultancy Organisation (ITCOT), District Library Officers and Corporation officials also attended.
According to the Corporation, 16 Chief Minister's Libraries are currently functioning in different parts of Chennai, while construction of eight more libraries is underway.
Officials reviewed the utilisation of these facilities and discussed measures to further improve services for readers. The meeting focused on strengthening coordination with the Public Libraries Department, appointing adequate staff including security personnel, housekeeping staff and receptionists for the upkeep of the facilities, and ensuring their continued maintenance.
The Commissioner also reviewed proposals to enhance internet connectivity by providing Wi-Fi facilities and explored infrastructure improvements with technical support from ITCOT. He directed officials to implement the necessary measures based on the recommendations discussed during the meeting to improve the overall functioning of the libraries.
