The Tamil Nadu government has called upon large corporations to build stronger and sustained partnerships with micro enterprises through mentoring, market access and supply-chain integration as the State seeks to help its vast MSME sector scale up.

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has called upon large corporations to build stronger and sustained partnerships with micro enterprises through mentoring, market access and supply-chain integration as the State seeks to help its vast MSME sector scale up and become more competitive.
Addressing the fifth edition of the CII Southern Region MSME Procurement Summit in Chennai on Wednesday, Additional Chief Secretary of the MSME Department Pradeep Yadav said Tamil Nadu was among the leading States in terms of registered MSMEs, with more than 43 lakh enterprises.
He said the State government's allocation for MSME subsidies had been increased from Rs 320 crore to Rs 600 crore with support now also being extended for the adoption of artificial intelligence.
Noting that nearly 99 per cent of Tamil Nadu's MSMEs are micro enterprises, Mr Yadav said these businesses were particularly vulnerable to market disruptions and required stronger institutional and industry support.
He urged MSMEs and buyers to make greater use of platforms such as the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and the Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS) to improve market access and cash flows.
The summit brought together procurement leaders from government departments, public sector undertakings and corporates, along with MSME entrepreneurs, policymakers and financial institutions. Discussions focused on government and PSU procurement, corporate sourcing, access to finance, defence manufacturing and emerging opportunities in deep-tech.

CII Southern Region chairman Ravichandran Purushothaman said MSMEs needed to focus on improving their scale, capabilities and global competitiveness. He highlighted the CII initiatives aimed at accelerating MSME transformation, including programmes promoting TReDS adoption, digital transformation and export opportunities.
The summit also featured representatives from organisations including ISRO, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, NLC India Limited, Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited and the Airports Authority of India.
