Father, 10-Year-Old Son Killed In Lightning Strike Near Padappai
Duo Struck While Cycling Home Amid Heavy Rain In Kancheepuram
A 45-year-old fish vendor and his 10-year-old son were killed after being struck by lightning while cycling home amid heavy rain near Padappai in Kancheepuram district on Friday evening.
The deceased were identified as Shankar, 45, and his son Chandran, 10, a Class V student at a government school near Oragadam Junction. The family lived in Periyar Nagar near the lake in Siruvanchur village under Nattarasampattu panchayat.
Shankar used to cycle to his son’s school every evening to bring him home. On Friday, he picked up Chandran from school and the two were returning home along the Walajabad-Vandalur Road when heavy rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, lashed Padappai and surrounding areas.
As they reached the vicinity of Siruvanchur lake, they were struck by lightning and died on the spot, police said.
On receiving information, Padappai police reached the spot and recovered the bodies. They were sent to Chengalpattu Government Hospital for postmortem examination.
Police have registered a case and are conducting an investigation.
