CHENNAI: Responding to widespread public demand, the government has scaled up appointment quotas across all sub-registrar offices by issuing extra document registration tokens for the upcoming auspicious day of Avani Avittam and Pournami.
To accommodate the anticipated surge in document registrations on the auspicious occasions of Avani Avittam and Pournami (Full Moon Day), the Tamil Nadu registration department has announced the allocation of additional online registration tokens across all sub-registrar offices in the state.
Since document registrations typically see a sharp rise on auspicious and festival days (subha muhurtham), the department has scaled up appointment capacity to ensure a smooth, hassle-free registration process for people ahead of the upcoming rush on August 27, 2026.
According to an official release of the inspector general of registration, single sub-registrar offices will now issue 150 online tokens instead of the standard 100, while offices with two sub-registrars will see their capacity increase from 200 to 300 tokens.
Additionally, in the top 100 high-volume offices where registrations are heavily concentrated, standard tokens have been raised from 100 to 150, alongside four extra tatkal slots, bringing the total tatkal quota to 16 tokens per office.
