Tiruchy Airport Also Transports Domestic Cargo Now

TIRUCHY: Domestic cargo operations commenced at the passenger terminal of the international airport at Tiruchy on Tuesday, a facility long sought by the region’s trade and business community.
An airport press release said the first shipment, weighing 1,192 kg, departed on flight 6E 2171 at 6.20 am. By the end of the day, a total of 2.46 metric tonnes of domestic cargo will be moved through the terminal, reflecting strong uptake from shippers and airlines.
The launch follows final security vetting approval granted by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) enabling domestic cargo handling ahead of a dedicated cargo terminal at the airport.
“This is an encouraging start, and reflects the pent-up demand from the trade community. They expect volumes to grow steadily,” said G. Gopalakrishnan, airport director, Tiruchy.
AAI and AAICLAS will continue working with all the stakeholders to scale up operations and facilitate the trade in the days ahead, the release added.
