CM Vijay Back to Work After UK Visit, Observes Periyar’s Birthday

Chennai: Returning from the United Kingdom, concluding his 6-day official trip, on Thursday, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay resumed his official responsibilities back home immediately by visiting the State Secretariat and administering the Social Justice Day oath to the government staff to mark the 148th birth anniversary of Periyar E V Ramasamy.
In his message on social media, Vijay remembered Periyar as one who dedicated his entire life fighting for self-respect, social justice and rationalism, sowing the seeds of progressive values like eradication of caste and religious differences and reclaiming people’s rights in the minds of the people.

Former Chief Minister M K Stalin, too, came out of his recuperation and paid homage to Periyar at his statue on Mount Road along with DMK leaders, including the Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, before administering the social justice pledge to DMK cadre at the party headquarters, Anna Arivalayam.
In his message, Stalin urged his followers to tread the path of social justice, along with self-respect with the goal of achieving equality in society.
Saluting Periyar, he said that though many generations of Tamil people had bowed to domination in society, one generation witnessed the revolution ushered in Periyar and the subsequent generations were seeing the changes brought about by it.
Dominance, had, still not gone away fully and it was the duty of the future generations to identify it and fight against it, he said
The traditional Muperum Vizha (three great festivals) of the DMK that was postponed on September 15 due to the indisposition of Stalin, will now be held on Saturday, September 19, at 5 pm in the party headquarters.
The Muperum Vizha marks the birth anniversary of DMK founder C N Annadurai (September 15), the founding of the DMK (September 17) and the birth anniversary of Periyar (September 17).
