Chennai: The nomination of the all the candidates of political parties including the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) and Naam Thamizhar Katchi (NTK) were accepted on Thursday after the scrutiny of nominations while papers of 20 independent candidates were rejected for lack of the required documents.

The final list of candidates would be announced on September 19 when the withdrawal of nominations ends.

The flying squads of the Election Commission of India had seized Rs. 8 lakh but there are no complaints of parties giving money to the voters till now.

Maragadham Kumaravel (TVK), I. Paranthaman (DMK), Kanitha Sampath (AIADMK), G. Janakiraman (NTK) and P. Suganthi (CPI-M) are in the fray.

Maragatham Kumaravel who is a popular candidate in the area was also the Kanchipuram MP in 2014. Paranthaman, an MLA from Egmore in 2021 is contesting for the first time in Madhuranthagam while Kanitha Sampath who is contesting for the AIADMK had won the Assembly elections from the neighbouring Thiruporur constituency in 2001 and from Madhuranthagam in 2011.
