Chennai Lags Behind Most Southern, Western Dists
Thanjavur and Tiruchy, marked a better performance in the plus-2 results
CHENNAI: Chennai, the capital city having all infrastructure, transport facilities, educational and Internet facilities continued to lag behind at 20th place with 95.43 per cent in the plus-2 results. Nearly all the southern and western districts, besides Thanjavur and Tiruchy, marked a better performance in the plus-2 results.
In the 578 schools in Chennai, 170 achieved 100 per cent pass. A total of 29,799 boys and 33,042 girls appeared for the plus-2 examination in Chennai, taking the total number of students to 62,841.
A total of 27,882 boys and 32,085 girls passed the examination, adding up to 59,967 students who passed, with a pass percentage of 95.43. The pass percentage of boys stood at 93.57 per cent and that of girls at 97.1 per cent.
Chengalpet registered a pass percentage of 94.71 per cent, which is higher than Chennai’s 94.48 per cent. Among the success rate in government schools, Chennai with 87.47 per cent results finished among the worst performing districts in Tamil Nadu. Even the government schools in Tiruvannamalai showed a result of 87.81 per cent.
Most districts in southern Tamil Nadu, including Sivagangai, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Madurai and Dindigul, besides the western districts like Erode, Coimbatore, Salem and Karur, performed better than Chennai.
However, it showed better results than its neighbouring districts like Chengalpet, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur.
