Pudukkottai:Forest department officials arrested two persons for poaching three monitor lizards in the Nagarappatti area, near Ponnamaravathi, in Pudukkottai district, on Thursday.

Forest department sources said their team, led by Ponnamaravathi forest range officer Ushain, conducted a routine raid in the Nagarappatti area on Thursday and intercepted two persons moving in a suspicious manner with a gunny bag.

When they examined the gunny bag, they found three monitor lizards.

They were later released into the nearby forest area.

The arrested were identified as Kanagarajan (42) and Senthil Kumar (29) of Subbirayapatti.

The officials initiated suitable criminal action against them.
