Left Movement Curbed RSS Influence in Keralam: CPI(M)’s P Jayarajan

Kannur: CPI(M) senior leader and state secretariat member P Jayarajan on Sunday said it was the Left movement that had curbed the influence of the RSS in Keralam and alleged that the UDF government led by Chief Minister VD Satheesan was facilitating the growth of the Sangh Parivar in the state.
Jayarajan was inducted into the CPI(M) state secretariat after the recent extended state committee meeting held at Kozhikode to review its defeat in the assembly election.
Speaking to reporters, Jayarajan said the CPI(M) would continue to resist the influence of the RSS and Sangh Parivar in Keralam.
"The RSS's plan to gain a foothold in Kerala has been implemented for several decades. RSS shakha (branch) activities began in Kerala in the 1940s. They claim that the highest number of RSS shakha activities in India take place in Kerala. But why hasn't Kerala turned into a Gujarat? Why hasn't it turned into a Madhya Pradesh?" he asked.
Jayarajan said this was not because of the strength of the Congress or the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) but due to the resistance led by the CPI(M), mobilising people against Sangh Parivar ideologies.
He said the resistance against the Sangh Parivar could not be confined to the participation of Communists alone and referred to the state's renaissance tradition.
"We have our renaissance tradition-the tradition of Sree Narayana Guru, Chattampi Swamikal and Mahatma Ayyankali. In all these traditions lie the sources of ideas needed to resist the Sangh Parivar," he said.
He alleged that CM Satheesan was facilitating the growth of the Sangh Parivar in Keralam.
"It has now been more than 120 days since the Satheesan government came to power. Look at each of their actions. Not a single action that is undesirable or displeasing to the RSS and the Sangh Parivar has come from the side of the UDF government in Keralam," he said.
"There are numerous examples, but I am not going into all of them. So, Satheesan and his team are in the process of rolling out the carpet for the Sangh Parivar to strengthen itself in Keralam," Jayarajan alleged.
He said Satheesan becoming Chief Minister has brought "great joy" to the Sangh Parivar.
According to him, the UDF government's tenure was being viewed by the Sangh Parivar as a period to strengthen itself in Keralam.
"The Sangh Parivar is considering this UDF rule as a period to dry gunpowder for the Sangh Parivar forces in Keralam, who are getting ready to open fire just like in Bengal," he said.
Jayarajan also alleged that communalism was strengthening in the country and said it had become dangerous because of its association with corporate interests.
"Here, communalism is getting strengthened. The speciality of that communalism is that it is a communalism joined with corporates, which has turned dangerous in Indian politics," he said.
He also criticised the suggestion that Muslim consolidation could counter Hindu consolidation and targeted the IUML.
"What some people suggest as an antidote to this is Muslim consolidation. Hindu consolidation on one side, and Muslim consolidation on this side. Who is coming forward as its spokesperson? The Muslim League," he said.
Jayarajan alleged that the IUML was increasingly resembling the BJP, saying,
"If you look at each action of the IUML, it is evidence that it is actually turning into a Muslim BJP," he alleged.
