Vijayapura: Four Of Family Killed As House Roof Collapses
According to officials, Gurunath Badiger’s mother, Shantabai, and his 10-year-old son Veeresh were unhurt as they were sleeping in another house at the time of the incident
Vijayapura: Four members of a family, including two children, were killed after the roof of the house collapsed at Moratagi village in Alamel taluk of Vijayapura district.
The incident occurred around 2 am.
The deceased have been identified as Gurunath Badiger (35), his wife Jyoti Badiger (28), and their children Kalamma Badiger (13) and Keerthi Badiger (9).
According to officials, Gurunath Badiger’s mother, Shantabai, and his 10-year-old son Veeresh were unhurt as they were sleeping in another house at the time of the incident.
Industries, Infrastructure Development, and District In-Charge Minister MB Patil visited the spot on Friday and inspected the site of the tragedy.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Anandh K, Superintendent of Police Lakshman Nimbargi, and Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rishi Anand briefed the minister about the incident. The minister met the bereaved family members and offered condolences.
Speaking to reporters, the minister announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh each for the family members of the four deceased. He also assured assistance for the education of the surviving boy, Veeresh Badiger, stating that the compensation amount would be deposited in a bank account in the boy’s name.
The minister said Gurunath Badiger and his wife had been staying in a rented house while repair works were underway at their own house and were scheduled to return home on Friday.
Sindagi MLA Ashok Managuli, former MLA Ramesh Bhusnur accompanied the minister.
